At the resort they have 26 acres of reforestation so we took a hike through some of it this morning. We were also able to see several of the cenotes.

Next we did a Sense Adventure. We had to be blind folded and then they took us in several places to renew the awareness of our senses. It was like an old Myan thing. It included water, beans, fire, smells, etc. We ended up at a cenote and took a swim.

We went kayaking. We started in a cenote, went down the river and out to the ocean and back. It was pretty cool.

There was a fun Circus Show at night. We had a pretty full day today.

Today we just relaxed at the resort. We also went out of our comfort zone and had a massage at the resort Spa. Ate dinner at the Italian Restaurant. Yum, really good.

We went out walking around Tres Rios this morning. So many beautiful things to see. The ocean is so blue and the sand is white.

We went to church in the Playa del Carmen Ward. It is so interesting to listen to the meeting in Spanish even though we cannot understand much of it. We also meet 2 other couples there from Idaho. What a small world.

After church we went to Fisherman's village in Playa del Carmen. We ate lunch there and walked around some of the ruins.

Mexico Day 1, Sat. January 28, 2012

We flew from Idaho Falls, to Salt Lake and then directly to Cancun, Mexico. When we arrived it was a warm 82 degrees and lots of sunshine. A van took us to Tres Rios in Playa del Carmen. (about 30 miles south)

We are at a beautiful resort. It amazes me how beautiful they can make them. And the people are so nice. Just a few shots of the resort.

I walked out to get the mail and had to take some pictures to remember this winter. It is January 20, 2012 and we still do not have any snow. It is the most strange winter I can remember. But I must admit I do not miss the slick roads.

We got to tend Lily and Bear for a week while Caleb and Hillary went to Hawaii. She was such a doll and we had such a great time with her. She has so many fun expressions you are just laughing all the time.

Sleigh Ride and Dinner in a Yurt

All 15 of us were able to get together and do the Sleigh Ride and Dinner in a Yurt at Grand Targhee Resort. What a fun evening we all had.

We rode a sleigh pulled by large draft horses to this Yurt. Then we were cooked a dutch oven and grill dinner. The food was amazing and such a fun placed to have a dinner.

It was pretty quite at our house Christmas morning. No one got up very early and the 4 of us just opened our presents. You really miss small kids on Christmas morning.
We then attended church in our ward. I really enjoyed the program and enjoyed the true meaning of Christmas on Christmas morning. What better thing to emphasis than the birth of our Savior and all he has done for us.

Day 5 Chicago, Sunday

We drove out and saw the Chicago Illinois Temple. We rented a car today so we could find some spots outside of downtown. It reminds me a lot of the Boise Temple. It is in Glenview a suburb outside of Chicago.

We attended church in one of the local wards. We saw to missionaries from our side of the States. Elder Nilsen from Declo, Idaho and Elder Mortensen was from Utah. It is always fun to see the missionaries. I like to send a picture and an email to their parents.

Busy Day. We went to the house of Blues for Sunday Brunch. Believe me their church services are different than ours. It is always fun to listen to gospel blues.

We were on an adventure looking for architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright. Here is his Robie House.

We took a ride on the subway one last time around the city. On the "L" it goes up above the street.

The sky was very clear tonight so I got some good pictures of things around town. (1) Willis (Sears) Tower, (2) One of the first McDonalds and one of the largest (3) Great picture of trees (4) Library at the University of Chicago.

I really do like the city of Chicago. We have been able to see many wonderful things. A lot more we could see but they will have to wait until next time. We fly to Salt Lake City on Monday.

Day 4 Chicago, Bus tour and play

Today we started with the Double-decker- Hop-on-hop-off City bus tour. We saw lots of interesting things. Of course you cannot go to Chicago without buying Garrett popcorn. Wow all kinds of flavors.

The Macy's store in Chicago is bigger than the one in New York. (the people in Chicago say???) The window decorations are amazing. The pictures do not do them justice, but so fun to see.

We went to the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) It was so interesting to see but I must admit I do not understand it at all.

The highlight today was the play, "Fiddler on the Roof" at the Auditorium Theatre. The theatre was huge and gorgeous and the play was great. Tevye was great in the play but you cannot beat John Bidwell playing that part.

Day 3 Chicago Circus and Sights

We went to the United Center to see the Circus.

Lots more interesting architecture we have seen in the city.

We saw the Barnum and Bailey Ringling Brothers Circus. The elephants were my favorite. It was an amazing show. I wished I had my grandkids with me, they would have loved it.

On the bus ride back we saw the 'threadless' sign and got off the bus to check it out. It was closed for the day but they guys let us in to check it out anyway. These are pictures of the show room in the warehouse. He also let us buy some merchandise.

We did some shopping on 'Black Friday' in downtown Chicago. The streets were so crowded it was unreal. I have never been a Black Friday shopper but what can I say. We found the Loyola University in downtown Chicago also. Melanie has had a phone interview with them for a job. We are having a great time.

Day 2 Chicago Thanksgiving Day

One of the most famous things to see in Chicago is "The Bean" actually a sculpture called the 'Cloud Gate'. You can see your reflection in it and take your own picture. So cool.

We did the Architecture Cruise down the Chicago River. The designs of the buildings in this town are amazing. So unique.

We rode the bus and walked around town and saw lots of sights.

We walked out to Navy Pier. It was a little windy and cold but what can you expect from the windy city. We are having a great time.

We ate lunch on the 96th floor of the John Hancock building. What a fun place for Thanksgiving lunch.We actually ate Thanksgiving dinner in an Italian Restaurant called Bolari

Day 1 Chicago, Illinois

Randy and Ashley on the airplane ride from Salt Lake City to Chicago. Check-in and the flight went real smooth. That is always good.

We arrived in the dark so we could not see much of the city. But it felt good to be there. I like big cities and all they offer. The adventure will begin tomorrow.

We drove to Logan to see Oliver in the Children's Theater play Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse. He played the part of Chester. He had so many lines to learn we were so proud of him. It was a great production. Way to go Oliver !!!!!!!

Ashley works at Wilson Elementary School for Americore while doing her Masters Degree at Utah State in Logan. She has been working on a clothing drive. Their school collected 1,821 pounds of clothes to share with families in the area. Great job Ashley !!!!!!!!

We went on a Canal Cruise in Richmond. We saw the 'Triple Crossing' (The only place in the United States where 3 train tracks crossover each other.) There are several locks on the canal to rise from the canal, to the James River, to the ocean for shipping supplies.

We went to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. One display was called 'Mocha Dick' the white whale by Trustin Lowe. It was 52 feet long. I had to take several pictures to get it in. It was the coolest thing to see.

Our motel where we are staying. It is right down town and walking distance to the sights we want to see.

The Wickham house.. It was so interesting to go through and see how the rich people lived back in the 1800's.

State Capitol building. The have restored the old part up top and have excavated the hill it sets on underneath and made the building larger.

They are filming the new Steven Spielberg movie about Lincoln, around the capitol building. We saw them filming but did not get to see any of the famous people. Just the extras. But it was kind of exciting. I cannot wait for the film to come out now.

St. Paul Episcopal Church. There is seating for 800 members, One of the largest on the east coast. They had a beautiful pipe organ.

This is where we ate dinner. It was a fun little restaurant in the Shockoe Slip. Cobble stone streets and fun restaurants and shops.

I arrived in Richmond, Virginia !!!!! I have never had such a hard time with connections. First my flight in Idaho Falls was delayed, so it was a rush in SLC to make my connection. Then there was a problem with the airplane so we sat on the runway for an extra hour, then it was a mad dash to make my connection in Atlanta, but I made it. It was so nice to get there.

Melanie met me at the baggage claim in Richmond. We were suppose to be on the same flight from SLC but they changed her flight. So it was great to meet up with her. We took a cab to the Omni Motel.

The whole town welcomed us with open arms. They were dressed in period costumes reflecting their town from the Indians to present time.

First stop on Island tour was to the Preserve Company. Wonderful jam and a fun hostess.

Green Gables. This is the place that is in the book of Ann of Green Gables. It is a national park now and is all restored. It was so fun to see.

We went to the show "Spirit of the Fiddle". They are famous for Gallic Music in Sydney. A girl danced, sang and played her drum, and there was fiddle music also.

We walked around town and saw the sights.

At 11:00 p.m. the Indonesian Crew put on a show about their country. It was fun to see our stewards and servers perform. Max got to go up on stage and participate also. He did a great job.

Halifax Novia Scotia LDS Temple. Randy and I, Max and Deanna, and Gary and Lalene went to the temple. It was so nice to visit this temple. The people were so nice.

We all ate fish or lobster chowder at Salty's. A fun restaurant on the Pier. We walked along the Pier in Halifax back towards the ship.

We took the tenders into Bar Harbor. Walked around the cute little town.

Our shore excursion took us to the Wildwood Stables. We took a carriage ride through Acadia Park. Rockerfellow donated 45 miles of carriage paths in the park that can be used for hiking, biking, and carriage rides.

Top of Cadillac Mountain. Actually a hill but they call it a mountain. Elevation 1,530 feet. Beautiful view of the ocean.

Friday August 19, 2011 Randy and I took the Hays's and Ashley camping to West Yellowstone. Oliver called it "fake" camping because we had the trailer and all the conveniences. But to me that is camping.

We went to the Discovery Center. We saw Bears, and Woolf s and the kids loved playing on the play ground.

Saturday August 20, 2011 we drove through Yellowstone Park.

August 12, 2011 Day 15 San Francisco to Rexburg

Today was a long driving day. When we started out we were going to stop half-way, but decided there was not anything in the middle of Nevada so we continued on home. 858 miles and approximately 15 hours. A very long travel day for Randy and I. I am thinking flying is really good. It is always great to be home !!!!!!!!

August 11, 2011 Day 14 Bay Cruise, Alcatraz

It was a little foggy and windy but we went on the Bay Cruise. We went under the Golden Gate Bridge and over by the Bay Bridge. We saw lots of sail boats and sights of San Francisco.

Fun sights on Fisherman's Wharf, large lobsters, street performers, crab statue, large replica of shark teeth.

We ate lunch at the Rain Forest Cafe.

We went to Alcatraz Island. It is a State Park now so they have been doing a lot of restoration out there. It was very interesting to see and hear about all that use to go on at the island.

August 10, 2011 Day 13 Bike ride over Golden Gate

We hauled our bikes over to Fisherman's Wharf and headed for the Golden Gate Bridge. What a fantastic ride over the bridge. Lots and lots of people do this, they either ride or walk. The view is amazing.

Next we went into Sausalito. What a unique and fun little town.

We continued onto Tiburon and then took the Ferry from there back to Pier 41 at Fisherman's Wharf. We did a total of 20.3 miles. It was a great day.

View of San Francisco on our ride back to the motel. In China town clothes were hanging out the windows in a lot of the apartments windows. We went back to the room and cleaned up and then went to the Mall on Powell Street, shopped, went to the movie "The Help" and then rode the cable car back to our room.

August 9,2011 Day 12 China Town, Fisherman's Warf, Play Billy Elliott

We walked down to China Town and did some shopping.

Rode the cable car and the down town buses.

Went to Fisherman's Wharf and ate Clam chowder and saw the sites there.

We went to the Broadway musical "Billy Elliott"

August 8, 2011 Day 11 Donner Park, Sacramento Temple, Bay Bridge, San Francisco

We dropped Ashley off at the Reno airport and then headed to San Francisco. We stopped at the Donner Memorial Park. What a tragic situation for those pioneers.

We stopped and took pictures of the Sacramento Temple. It was closed for maintenance so we were not able to do a session. It is a gorgeous temple, acres and acres of maintained grounds. It is beautiful.

Bay Bridge going into San Francisco

Wyndham Resort in down town San Francisco. Canterbury. The rooms are quite unique and fun. We were able to just walk around town last night and enjoy the city.

August 7, 2011 Day 10 Church, Heidi's, Cruise, Mini golf

We attended the Lake Tahoe Ward. 2/3rds of the people were visitors. It must be a challenge to run a ward with that type of attendance each week.

You have to eat breakfast at Heidi's if you are in the Tahoe area. They are only opened from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., but their breakfasts our wonderful. There is always a wait but it is well worth it.

We went on the M.S. Dixie II cruise. It is a 2 hour Scenic boat ride going to Emerald Bay. Very relaxing and beautiful scenery.

Ashley wanted to go miniature golfing so we finished off our last day in Tahoe with that. It was a fun little course.

August 6, 2011 Day 9 Gondola, Car Show & Auction

We rode the Heavenly Gondola up to the ski resort. They stopped at the observation deck and we could get out and take pictures. You could see Lake Tahoe and for miles around.

On top you can ski either in Nevada or California. We ate lunch on top and watched the activities that were going on.

The casinos had Hot August Nights Car Show and Auction. Lots of restored automobiles from all makes, years and models.

The auction was fun to watch. Cars were going through from $10,000.00 to $90,000.00. On Sunday I think the values will go up to around $200,000.00. There were some amazing cars to look at.

August 5, 2011 Day 8 Pedicure, Shopping, relaxing

Ashley and I went for a Pedicure and a manicure. A fun Spa where they all spoke Vietnamese but were very efficient. A great relaxing morning. We then got Randy and went shopping.

We ate at "Freshies" a roof top restaurant with a wonderful view of the Lake.

August 4, 2011 Day 7 Bike ride, drive around the lake, Shakespeare Festival

This morning we took Ashley with us on the bike ride. We went on the trail at the South end of the Lake. There several restored old estates to look at, and of course the beautiful lake. It is a paved trail in a very picturesque area of Tahoe.

We drove around the 72 miles of Lake Tahoe. Emerald Bay is the most beautiful area. One of our stops was Tahoe city. That is where the lake flows into the Truckee River. There is a dam there that controls the river flow. Just so many beautiful places along the way.

We attended the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival held at Sand Harbor State Park. It is in an outdoor theater looking out over the lake. The seats are all beach chairs in the sand looking down to the stage. We saw "Twelfth Night". The performers were wonderful and it was "Great Fun In A Matchless Setting" as stated in the brochure.

August 3, 2011 Day 6

Randy and I went on another bike ride. Today we biked through the Tahoe Keys. Wow talk about a fancy neighborhood. Each house had their own private dock in their backyard.

We did the Duck Tour that was in South Shore Tahoe. It was great to go out on the lake and see things there also.

In the afternoon we went to the Hill Top Beach and spent the afternoon. The water was way cold but Ashley and I did brave it once. The rest of the time we just enjoyed the sunshine and being on the beach. The weather has been exceptionally beautiful

We ate at Tep's Villa Roma, a wonderful Italian Restaurant.

August 2, 2011 Day 5

We went to the South end of Lake Tahoe and found a wonderful bike path. It wound around the lake and through trees and over streams and was just beautiful. Can't beat that for an early morning.

We drove to the Reno Temple and did a session there. The temple President, President Wadsworth talked to us as we were leaving. He did his training in SLC with President and Sister Thueson. Also his son is married to Brent and Janis Ritchie's daughter. What a small world.

We picked Ashley up at the Reno airport. She finished her last summer class for her Masters program and is going to spend a few days with us here in Tahoe.

We had to eat at In N Out, Randy's favorite place.

August 1, 2011 Day 4 Tahoe, Bike ride, Heavenly Village, Van Sickle Park

We started the morning with a bike ride. We left from the resort went through town, (way to much traffic for us) but then find some trails in the hills that were much better. Swam at the resort (but I will not burden you with pictures of us in swim wear yuck!!!)

Heavenly Village is in down town Tahoe. We went to a movie (Cowboys and Aliens) and just sat around and watched the people.

Sickle Park was beautiful to drive through.

July 31, 2011 Day 3 Carson City to Lake Tahoe

We went to the Carson City Ward to church first thing this morning. They were a very friendly ward. Then we went to the Train Museum. I am amazed at how wonderful their museums are.

We drove up to Tahoe and checked into our resort. It is beautiful up here in the mountains.

At dusk we walked down to the lake which is about 1/4 of a mile away. We almost missed the sunset but it was beautiful anyway.

July 30, 2011 Day 2 Elko to Carson City, NV

We visited the Nevada State Museum in Carson City, Nevada. It was very interesting and beautifully done. The had a ghost town, firearms, the Mint, Silver coin press, geology, natural history, and Nevada History.

We went up to Virginia City. It is up in the mountains about 18 miles from Carson City. It was such a fun old town to see. Many of the old building have been restored and it was very interesting. We ate dinner there in an old restaurant that we could see over the valley for 100 miles. (they said)

July 29, 2011 Day 1 Rexburg to Elko, Nevada

Our first stop was in Twin Falls to look at the canyon and river. It is always such an awesome sight to see. Idaho is beautiful.

We went to the Twin Falls LDS Temple. We did a session there before traveling on.

In Nevada there are all these deer crossings. They are bridges over the road and tunnels under the road. The area on the side of the roads is all fenced off so the deer must go to the crossings to get through. I am sure it has saved on a lot of car accidents with animals on the road.

Logan, Utah for the week-end

We went swimming at the Aquatic Center. The boys loved it.

We all went for a walk along a trail in Logan Canyon. It was so pretty and much cooler than in the city. Oliver was hunting for bugs. Hillary and Lily and Ashley were with us also.

Play at the OLD BARN

Outside of Logan is an OLD BARN where they put on plays. We went and saw "Into the Woods". It was a small community group that performed and did a really good job. Notice the fun restrooms though.

Bike ride around "R" Butte

The "R" Butte was beautiful this morning. It is a really nice paved road all the way around. Thanks Deanna and Max for taking us.

Henry Hays 1 Year Old

Stockings for Soldiers

Hard to believe it is that time of year again. The Rexburg Civic Club is making 600 Christmas stockings to send to our men and women in the armed services. We send them back east to a group that fills them and mails them on. All total they hope to send over 6,000 stockings. It is great to be a part of it.

Kinsley likes to make things. So we got a kit to make a quilt.

She is tying the squares together to make herself a blanket. It will be darling when she is done.

Bathrobes

Holden and Keagan wanted bathrobes like Kinsley's with big pockets to haul their cars in. So I made them some. Jaxon says they look like small Hugh Hefner's.

Bike Ride 7-14-11

Randy and I went for bike ride with Max and Deanna on Thursday morning. We went from our house up to the temple. It was great to go with someone. The sky was a little cloudy looking but we ended up with great weather for a bike ride.

It was a beautiful morning for a bike ride. I saw this yak bull along the route. I am sure glad there was a fence between him and me.

There was not a breeze this morning and it was beautiful up along the bench. The ups on the bike are hard but the downs are worth it.

Relief Society Mother/daughter camp-out

We went to Jeff and Lyndia Hawkes "This is the Place" family gathering place. The wild flowers were still so beautiful.

This is looking down on all our trailers and tents that were set up. Randy pulled the trailer up for me and stayed as Priesthood help. They cooked breakfast in the morning.

4th of July Activities

You have to have fireworks for the 4th of July. We did some of our own out in the front yard of the Barney's. The Hays's and Ashley were there also.

We spent the afternoon in the park in Layton. There were lots of booths, games, and very interesting people watching to do.

These are her grandparents that were present. Karole and Lee Barney, Randy and Susan Landon, great-grandmother, Collen Muir, and Corrin Barney. We had a wonderful day with a fun family and friend luncheon at Caleb and Hillary's afterwards.

Relay for Life June 24-25 6 pm to 6 am

Our camp was "Curves forthe Cure" What a neat experience to participate in this event of Relay for Life.

It was fun to walk the track and hang out at our booth. Cheryl Orme, Cookie Watts, Pam Orr, Nancy and Garth Miekle, Max and Deanna Wade, Randy and Ashley Landon, Brenna Miekle and her son. Lots more participated and helped.

Light the way to a cure...... The Luminaria bags and ceremony were my favorite part. There was one silent lap at 10 pm in honor of the people represented on the bags. It was amazing.

Saturday morning clean up. Randy and I did go home and sleep for awhile and come back.
