D.R. Day 6 Thursday Feb. 9, 2012 Temple

We started our adventure at 5 am. We had a mountain pass t go over to get to Santo Domingo. 93 miles took us about 4 1/2 hours. But it was very interesting. The small villages along the way were quite unique.
We went to the Templo De Santo Domingo de la Republicia Dominicana. It is a beautiful temple. The Mission training center is right there also. We had a Wnglish Session because all the new missionaries were doing a session. The native people had to wear the headsets. Ther were 25 young men and 2 young lady missionaries.
Temple grounds
Posted by PicasaSome sites in Santo Domingo.  The ocean was beautiful on this side of the island also.   4 1/2 hour drive back.  We are so spoiled to have a temple 5 minutes away. A long day of driving but well worth it.

D.R. Day 5 Wednesday Feb. 8, 2012

Jeep Safari Tour. We had a great tour guide. Lots of fun things to see along the way.
We learned about some of the carving craft they do. The man carved one for us with our family names on a family carving. All six of our names
They taught us how to make coffee and cocoa.  Us ladies had to do a dance around the churn to grind the coffee beans or the cocoa beans
Learning how to roll cigars.
Posted by PicasaThis was our major adventure.  We could not take our camera because it would get wet.  These were our helpers along the way.  They helped us climb up the waterfalls and helped us to slide down.  It was amazing.  I can't believe  Randy and I did it.  WOW!!!!!!!

D. R. Day 4 Tuesday Feb. 7, 2012 Puerto Plata

We went into Puerto Plata to see the sights there.  A guy came up to us on the city square and said he was security and would take us around.  He escorted around town.  Of course he wanted a tip for his services. But he was very nice.
The church in the city center.
Our city guide and the guy that watched our car to keep it safe.  Lots of pigeons and we also saw another set of missionaries.
Kite Surfers on the ocean.   The wind comes up in the afternoon.

D.R. Day 3 Monday Feb. 6, 2012 Snorkeling

We went out snorkeling this morning. The water was not as clear as you would like it, but it was a fun morning anyway. We took off on a small boat and went to a reef and saw lots of great fish. We feed them and they came really close.
This is the town of Sosua.

D.R. Day 2 Sunday Feb. 5, 2012

The taxi's were so expensive we decided to rent a car instead. These were the guys that helped us get a car. The one guy spoke lots of Spanish even though we did not understand him. He was so happy.
Sites on the way to church
We attended church, the end of one sacrament meeting and the beginning of the next one.  We met Elder Johnson from Ogden, Utah and Elder Walker from Boise, Idaho.  A small world where ever you go.
We went exploring.  What beautiful country here.
Posted by PicasaFuneral Dominican Republic Style.  Notice the coffin in the back of the pick-up, and a lot of people were following behind on motor bikes.
