Beartooth Highway and Yellowstone Park

Thursday, August 29, 2013. We drove home by way of the Beartooth Highway and Yellowstone Park. This pass has more switch backs than any pass I know of. But it is a beautiful drive. Most of the time you can only go about 25 miles per hour.

Up on top there were still lots of wild flowers in bloom.

We had to stop and wait for road construction up on top also. There was only 1 lane so our wait was quite long. The car in front of us was very entertaining. Notice the costume and all.

Also while we were waiting a young man peed between the vehicle and trailer and then a young lady did the same thing. Only in Montana. I waited and did it the right way even though it was a gross out house.

Cooke City is a fun little city to visit. We ate at a Bistro that was very good.

We entered the park from the Northeast corner and came out at the West entrance. You can only go 45 miles per hour through the park so it was a long day but we saw lots of beautiful scenery and lots of buffalo coming home this way. But it is always good to be home when you have driven that much in 3 days.

Kinsley, Keagan, and Holden First day of school

Keagan and Holden started their first day of Kindergarten at the Burton Elementary School. Kinsley started at the Madison Junior High. Wow!!!!! They are growing to fast.

Penny Landon's Funeral Wednesday, August 28, 2013

Penny's funeral was held at the Red Lodge LDS Branch building. She had a wonderful service and so many people attended. She was well loved by many.

Some family pictures. Jeannie Landon, her daughter Jalene and son-in-law Bart, plus Jerry and Yvonne Landon came from Idaho. Shannon came from Kalispell, Montana; Nannette and Jerry from Great Falls, Montana; and Len and Bonnie from, Billings, Montana.

Picking up Grandpa Landon and going to Penny's viewing

We left Salt Lake City, Utah at 5 am drove to Wheat, Montana and met Grandpa (Ike) Landon and took him with us to Red Lodge, Montana. A nine hour drive.

There was a large fire on the opposite side of the road across from our motel.

We stayed at the Rock Creek Resort which was so gorgeous. It was right on the creek and only a few miles from the LDS church in Red Lodge.

They had a simple family viewing for Penny Tuesday night, August 27, 2013. Her whole immediate family was there, grandpa Landon, Randy and I, and Penny's sister her husband and a cousin. A few friends came by also.

Lily- Pre-school orientation

Lily went to her pre-school orientation today. She loved it and cannot wait for school to start. She will go 2 mornings a week. She is growing up so fast.

We gave Hillary and Caleb a little alone time with June and took Lily to the zoo.

She rode the Merry-go-round and loved looking at her map to tell us where to go next.

Olives on the fingers is always a treat. Every kid must do it.

Penny Landon

Penny Landon (Patricia Lockridge Landon) passed away at 9:00 pm on Thursday night. The family that was with her had just had a family prayer. She is listed as passed away on Friday, August 23, 2013 because that is when the coroner arrived at their home to pronounce her passed away. She will be greatly missed by all of us. She was always the life of the party at all our reunions and get togethers. Randy and I were able to see her and have a good conversation with her a few days before she passed away. We talked about the good old times and all. She was a great sister-in-law.

This picture of Penny was taken in 2007 in Hawaii. She battled cancer for 26 years but you never once heard her complain. She said some people get colds and I get cancer. She had radiation and chemo so many different times. She was always so positive and up beat about life. She touched a lot of people and will be missed by many.

We got a call around 11 am that Hillary was in labor so we headed to Salt Lake City, Utah. She was at St. Marks Hospital. Waiting for the baby to come.
