Day Day 14- Flying Home

Time to get back to reality.  We flew out of San Antonio, Texas in a rainstorm, landed in Salt Lake and the weather was gorgeous.  Hard to believe it is the end of February and there is no snow and it is so warm.  The sun was shining when we landed in Idaho Falls also.  NO SNOW.   Jaxon was there to pick us up and take us home.  We had a great time seeing California and Texas even though both weeks we hit their cold weather.

Day 13- San Antonio Temple

We attended a night Endowment Session at the San Antonio Temple.  This temple is full of stained glass windows that are amazing.  It was beautiful.  It was cold and dark outside so I did not get very many pictures.  Who knew Texas could be so cold.

Day 13- Fredricksburg, Texas

Fredricksburg is a fun little town with a German theme.
We ate lunch in the downstairs cafe called Rathskellee Restaurant.  It was still cold and rainy so we visited quick.

Day 13- Lyndon B. Johnson State Park

This is the school he would have attended
Lyndon B. Johnson and Lady Byrd Johnson are both buried here.
There ranch even though it has been donated to the State it is still a working ranch with lots of cattle.
We took a tour of the Texas White House.  The tour guide explained so much about the Johnson Family.
There is an airstrip on the property that only Lyndon and his grandson can land on.

Day 13- Lutheran Church

Lutheran Church and Cemetery

Day 13- Sauer Beckmann Living History Farm

It was so cold we did not get out of the car and go look.  But it looked like a fun place to see how a farm works.

Day 13- The Johnson Settlement

The homestead

Day 13- Lyndon B. Johnson Boyhood Home

This is the home that he lived in from age 5 on.
They had indoor plumbing for their tub.

Day 13- Car ride to Johnson City

Lots of fun things to see on our way North to Johnson City.  The temperature is 30 degrees adn some freezing rain.  Who know it could be so cold in Texas.

Day 12- Movie

We finished off the day by going to a movie.  (St. Vincent).  It was okay but I was surprised a movie that is PG-13 could have so much language right at the first.  We almost left.

Day 12- Travis Park

San Antonio has lots a fun park to see.
This park had a display of many peace sign statues.  Different people from Mexico had made the statues and they were on display for a few weeks.  A new display will go up in this park in March.

Day 12- Bike Return

The B-Cycles were a great adventure.  I think we will do that again in another city.  You see these kind of bikes all over in the big cities.

Day 12- Blue District

We stopped at the Blue District along our route.  It is the Arts Community of San Antonio.  We saw some interesting art pieces.
We ate lunch at the Brewery.  It is interesting how they make beer.  The lunch was great, all fresh food.  Yum, Yum!!!!!

Day 12- Bike Ride

We decided to use the B-cycle's and go for a ride.  They are bicycles all over town that you can rent.  You pick the bikes up at one place and you can drop the bikes off at another.  They only have 3 gears and are very heavy (so different than the bike I am use to).  It was a great ride.
There are miles and miles of paved paths along the river.  We biked for 10 miles and only saw a part of the paths.
The sun was shining but a little windy.
We saw these turtles sunbathing on a rock in the river.
So many fun things to see.  It was a great day.

Day 11- River Barge

We rode the Barge down the river.
A little different view of things when you are on the river and not just walking.  We actually saw Elvis by the river.  They say he dresses up everyday and walks around the river district.

Day 11- Spanish Governors Palace

The harp in the house reminded me of Kathryn Merrill.  She is a beautiful player.
These are the gardens outside the Palace.

Day 11-San Fernando Cathedral, Town Square

The first Christian Mission in San Antonio
Town Square in front of the Cathedral
Pictures from inside the Cathedral.

Day 11- Bexar County Courthouse

They have some beautiful building in San Antonio

Day 11- Market Square

We stopped at Market Square.  All kinds of shops just like you would find in Mexico, but the prices were a lot more.
We ate lunch while we were in Market Square.  This restaurant is open 24 hours a day.  They never close.  They had an awesome bakery also.

Day 11-Trolly Ride

We did the Hop-on-Hop of Trolly Ride around the area.  LeRoy was our driver for today.

Day 11-King William District

King William District.   Lots of old beautiful homes along the San Antonio River that have been restored.

Day 10-San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo

The Rodeo was held at the At & T Center where the Spurs usually play.  I have never seen so many large pick-ups at any event.  Our car looked quite out of place.
There were lots of displays in other buildings, farm animals, exotic animals, anything you could think of.
There were concerts going on outside and many places to eat.  Kind of like a State Fair.
This was the Cowboy Hall of Fame
We were in the nose bleed section, way up high.  But actually you could see pretty good.
 The rodeo was very good.
Lots of events and the cowboys were pretty much all successful.  They were all  very talented.
When the rodeo was over they moved a stage in and Justin Moore was the entertainer.  The stage rotated the whole time he played.

Day 10- King William District

We toured the Guenther house and ate lunch in the dinning room.
A fun area of town.

Day 10- Mission Concepion

The missionaries worked to replace traditional Indian rituals with religious festivals teaching Christianity.
This mission is also still a working mission.
Beautiful art work in the building.
