We decided to rent a car so we could go exploring the island. Notice that Randy is sitting on the wrong side of the car. We kept having to say, "Stay to the Left."
There are so many churches on this island. About 70 % of the people are Baptists. They like the wild music in church one of the locals told us.
Pictures from the East side of the island of New Providence.
We found one of their cemetery's. Just flat ground, with slabs of cement. Many of the graves were dug up and just the cement linings are left. Kind of weird.
Pictures from the South end of the island.
Genesis- was sculptured by 2 local men representing the slave women. They are all looking different directions, because they are lost and looking for their lost families. The marks on their backs represents the scares they all have.
The is called "Sacred Space". The Indians are buried below here in a large grave by the ocean. The wooden chairs represent a chapel where you can sit and meditate.
We visited a slave settlement that is in the process of being restored. It was interesting to see how the slaves were treated years ago in the Bahamas.
We ate dinner at a place called "Netties". She is 82 years old and still runs her own restaurant and motel. Kind of a different place to eat. She is Big Al', out tour guide for yesterday, mother.
